50th Birthday Cards

Welcome to my blog and thank you so much for your visit. Take time to look around and see if any of my projects inspire you!

Hubby’s turn now – half a century young!

My Husband and I always say that we will never grow up, so this card seemed ideal sent to him from the boys.  Unfortunately, no Big Thunder Mountain celebratory birthday ride this year at Disneyland Paris due to the Covid situation, but I did inject a little nod to Disney with the Mickey Mouse style hat.  The die is shown in full on the interior of the card, but for the front I cut out just the hat.  I think this die was an eBay purchase, which I’ve had for a while, but hadn’t used. The balloon background was done using a brass stencil and inked through onto white card.  MS Word was my friend for the text and I mounted this onto a black card base which was made using Dovecraft Premium Textured Cardstock.  I like using this for coloured card bases as it is 220 gsm in thickness.

Again, not much crafting going on for the card I sent to Hubby.  MS Word again for the text onto thick white card.  The dark blue card used for the mat underneath and corners is from The Works. The corner die was another eBay purchase some time ago.  The heart on the inside was left over from a previous project.  For the card base a sheet of A3 white card was scored in half, which is a nice sturdy 300 gsm, made by Craft UK Limited.  I find this card works well for large cards such as this one, which is A4 in size.

Hubby did have a good day, despite the lack of a Disney visit, he was very happy having some time off work to chill out and even happier when the day ended with a nice bottle of non-alcoholic wine.

I did buy him a small gift for future use, a travel journal, and made a gift box to store it in.  The fancy flap was created with a WRMK Mini 8 ‘Vine’ Punch.

In my next post I will show you the Christmas crafting that I have been working on!

See you next time,

21st Birthday Cards

Welcome to my blog and thank you so much for your visit. Take time to look around and see if any of my projects inspire you!

Our eldest son reached the age of 21 at the end of September and blimey, do I feel old!

Onto the cards – the 21 card was made by printing a large 21 using MS Word and cutting it out.  The balloon paper was in my stash and has been for some time so I draw around the now cut out 2 and 1 onto the balloon paper and cut them out.  I adhered the numbers onto black card and cut out around both the 2 and 1 together to create the card front.  I then attached this to a smaller black piece of card to create the rear.

The second card, sent by my youngest son, was created using MS Word (again!) for the 21 around the edge in red. The centre was created using a circular die from The Works, cut in red mirri card with ‘Brother’ being cut from the same card, using a Cut and Make mini die.  The two die cut pieces were stuck onto a piece of white card then die cut using a large scalloped circle from a First Edition nesting set.  The card front was then attached to a red base using Dovecraft Premium Textured Cardstock.

Mmmmmmm…Cake!

See you next time,

I had to take a blog break, but here’s what I made during my absence!

It’s been a long time since I last posted anything on the blog!  Life took over and a well earned family break was required.  A few weeks later we very sadly suffered an unexpected family bereavement and thus, my return to blogging was hugely delayed. Fast forward a month and we took another short break to recharge our batteries.  I now feel that a return to blogging is in order.

During this time I have decided not to continue being a demonstrator with Stampin’ Up!  My collection of papercraft paraphernalia includes items from other manufacturers, which I have obviously been neglecting over the past several months.  I will of course continue to blog all things papercraft, but with the occasional sewing project and maybe a few travel related posts too – if you are interested in our motorhome travels, my Husband’s blog is www.motorhomeadventuresblog.com.

Have I made anything recently?  Yes, our youngest son’s Birthday card is shown above, and currently under construction are my eldest son’s Birthday cards, which I will show you after the event next week.  I have also made some washable face masks, which I continue to make as and when I have the time.

Have I bought any crafty items lately? Of course! Two WRMK Mini 8 punches which I thought would be a great addition to my collection.

Also, a Brother P-touch labelling machine which is brilliant for organising my stuff….. and my husbands’ stuff….. and my son’s stuff!

I have also purchased some Christmas papercrafting goodies from various places including The Works, The Range, Hobbycraft and Stampin’ Up!  You will see these items incorporated into future projects which I have yet to make – I usually start making my Christmas cards in August (I find thoughts of a lovely cold winter really help whilst melting in a heatwave!) but this year I am obviously way behind on this.  I do have lots of ideas though and can’t wait to get started.

I hope you will continue to visit my blog as I really do remain interested in inspiring creativity.

Thank you for your visit today – I hope you will come back soon!

Butterfly Beauty on Black

Welcome and thank you so much for your visit.  Take time to look around and see if any of my projects inspire you!

If you wish to purchase any of the products I have used, I am an Independent Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator based in the UK, so if you live in Austria, France, Germany, Netherlands or United Kingdom, you are eligible to purchase from me, but regardless of where you are from, I do appreciate your visit to my blog.

I think this card can be described as a ‘no brainer’ as it was so quick, with the main element from the Butterfly Beauty Dies being already cut using Forever Greenery designer series paper, which was left over from a previous project.  The main consideration with this die, which is the largest in the set, is that the size of the card needs to be fairly large to accommodate the whole die cut, so a custom sized card base needs to be made.  I cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock to 9” x 55/8” and folded in half to become 4½” x 55/8”.  A piece of Basic Black cardstock was cut to 43/8” x 5½” and attached to the card base before adding the butterfly die cut.  The sentiment was stamped on a scrap of Basic Black in Versamark and heat set after being covered with gold embossing powder, then attached to the card using dimensionals.

Punched Edge Card using Field of Flowers Bundle

Welcome and thank you so much for your visit.  Take time to look around and see if any of my projects inspire you!

Demonstrator based in the UK, so if you live in Austria, France, Germany, Netherlands or United Kingdom, you are eligible to purchase from me, but regardless of where you are from, I do appreciate your visit to my blog.

When I first saw the Confetti Flowers Border Punch, I knew that I wanted to try it out this way.  I first punched the front of the notecard on the long side, then using the co-ordinating stamp set, Field of Flowers, stamped the flowers on a piece of Whisper White cardstock in Highland Heather, Balmy Blue and Daffodil Delight inks, I cut the panel down to size and adhered it to the notecard.  On a scrap of Whisper White I stamped the sentiment, from the same stamp set, in Balmy Blue ink and trimmed it to fit onto the stamped panel.  The die cut flowers were from the Ornate Borders Dies, which I cut using the same colours, layering the medium and small sized die cuts together before attaching to the panel.

To accentuate the punched edge of the card, I added an insert – I cut a piece of blue copier paper to fit inside, then to attach the insert, ran a line of glue, next to and parallel to the right of the central fold inside the card.  The copier paper is from my stash (not a Stampin’ Up! product) and matches very well with Balmy Blue.

Ornate Borders Dies with Gorgeous Grape, Highland Heather and Very Vanilla

Welcome and thank you so much for your visit.  Take time to look around and see if any of my projects inspire you!

Demonstrator based in the UK, so if you live in Austria, France, Germany, Netherlands or United Kingdom, you are eligible to purchase from me, but regardless of where you are from, I do appreciate your visit to my blog.

Today I made a card for a friend’s birthday using the Ornate Borders Dies.  The card base was made from an A4 sheet of Thick Very Vanilla cardstock which was cut to 8¾” x 6 1/8” and scored in half, the size of the card being determined by the length of the dies.  The background cardstock is Gorgeous Grape, with Highland Heather on top.  The mirror image of the die cut edging was achieved by die cutting one side, then flipping the cardstock to cut the second image from the rear.  After this I ran the cardstock through the Big Shot again to flatten out the image, so it wasn’t as obvious that one side was cut from the rear.  The central flowers were then cut using Very Vanilla cardstock.  Next, the sentiment, from Itty Bitty Greetings, was stamped in Versamark and heat set in silver embossing powder before being cut using the smallest circle from the Stitched Shape Dies.  The sentiment backing is Gorgeous Grape cardstock and cut from the next larger sized circle and adhered to the back, before being attached to complete the card. I hope my friend likes it!

I think this is such a nice pretty little thank you card! I made this quite quickly using the Field of Flowers stamp set for the flowers, with Balmy Blue, Daffodil Delight and Highland Heather inks.  The coloured backgrounds for the butterflies were cut from spare pieces of Whisper White cardstock inked in Balmy Blue and Daffodil Delight inks, rather than cut into a new A4 sheet.  The background cardstock colour is Coastal Cabana, which is a lovely shade of blue. I did consider adding more butterflies but decided that two were just enough for this card, and attached them using dimensionals.

Demonstrator based in the UK, so if you live in Austria, France, Germany, Netherlands or United Kingdom, you are eligible to purchase from me, but regardless of where you are from, I do appreciate your visit to my blog.

I like repetitive stamping, it’s so easy to do and can give great results.  For this card, I used silver embossing powder on the Whisper White background panel and clear embossing powder on the Basic Black central border.  Before attaching the border to the background, I edged it using a die from the Ornate Borders Dies.  I then heat embossed the sentiment in silver, which is from the Itty Bitty Greetings stamp set, before punching the ends in the Lovely Labels Pick a Punch.  At the last minute, I decided to add four Pearl Jewels to the sentiment.

Butterfly Beauty Dies and Forever Greenery DSP

Welcome and thank you so much for your visit.  Take time to look around and see if any of my projects inspire you!

Demonstrator based in the UK, so if you live in Austria, France, Germany, Netherlands or United Kingdom, you are eligible to purchase from me, but regardless of where you are from, I do appreciate your visit to my blog.

It’s nearly a week since I last produced a Stampin’ Up! project and I will admit that during that time I did use some non SU products to make some Father’s Day cards as sometimes, this just cannot be avoided.  So on with today’s project.

To begin, I created an inky background using Rococo Rose, Balmy Blue and Highland Heather ink, which was applied to Whisper White cardstock using a brayer.

After this, I spritzed a little water over the top and left it to dry.  Using the Butterfly Beauty Dies, I cut both large images from Whisper White cardstock and layered them on top of each other.  Using a piece of Forever Greenery designer series paper, I die cut the butterfly image, discarding all the left over small pieces, as I needed the large negative space.  Using the inky background, I attached the Forever Greenery DSP onto it, then adhered the large die cut butterfly image into the negative space.  On a scrap of Basic Black cardstock, I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment in white embossing powder before using the smallest circle from the Stitched Shape Dies.  To finish, all the elements were adhered onto a card base made from Whisper White Thick cardstock.

Score Lines and Flowers for Every Occasion DSP

Welcome and thank you so much for your visit.  Take time to look around and see if any of my projects inspire you!

Demonstrator based in the UK, so if you live in Austria, France, Germany, Netherlands or United Kingdom, you are eligible to purchase from me, but regardless of where you are from, I do appreciate your visit to my blog.

I really like the Flowers for Every Occasion designer series paper.  Such a shame I omitted to order the new In-Colour cardstock which would have co-ordinated perfectly with it though!  Not a massive issue, I did find a way around this by doing some scoring for the bottom half of the card on Whisper White cardstock.  I won’t bore you with all the card measurements, as I do this all too often, but I will explain the scoring.  First I decided upon the size of the card and then cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock to the appropriate size, on which to do the scoring.  I scored three lines together, then left the next two measurements unscored, repeating the scoring on the next three measurements, so I scored at 1/8”, ¼”, 3/8”, (½” and 5/8” left unscored) scoring at ¾”, 7/8”, 1”, (11/8” and 1¼” left unscored) scoring again at 13/8” and so on.  I hope that makes sense.

If you wish to place an order, click on the item and the link will take you direct to the Stampin’ Up! store, alternatively, make a note of the item number(s) and use the ‘Shop Now’ tab above.  Both methods require the next steps: On the next screen, at the top left hand side on the blue bar, there are three horizontal lines – click on the lines.  A column will then appear where you will need to select your country (only if the one shown is incorrect) and underneath it reads ‘Find a Demonstrator’.  Click this option and you will then need to select ‘Find a Demonstrator by name’.  Insert my name (Angela Hicken) and click search.  My details will then appear and you will need click ‘select’.  (If you click the three lines on the blue bar again, this will confirm that you are now shopping with me).  After selecting your items, insert the  Host Code  where prompted, which is  9XJE2ZJA  during the month of June, but only if your order is under £150. (If your order is over £150 you will get to choose your own rewards).  Every customer will receive a thank you goody package the following month, sent separately from your Stampin’ Up order.  If the contact/no contact option is shown, please  don’t  select  ‘No Contact’, as I won’t be able to send you anything!

If you make a purchase with me this month for £30 or more (excluding postage) in addition to the goody package, you will also receive a card kit, which will comprise of three cards to assemble yourself, all papers will be pre-cut for you with the card bases, envelopes and any die cuts provided, the only item not provided will be adhesive, as I find the preference of this differs greatly between crafters.

Thank you for viewing my project today – I hope you will visit again soon!
